We discovered this extraordinary fern on the San Juan Islands of Washington State, at a picnic on a rock cliff during the golden hour before sunset, with sea lions chattering down below. We love how the collection of delicate spikes creates a bold geometric pattern, but we also love the intricate organic structure of each leaf. And we love the spaces between leaves: a series of new windows on the world, and a reminder of how even when there are spaces between us, big or small, we can still be together with the ones we love, in our hearts. - Merzatta
